Enriching the plant palette of projects, always better knowledge of, composing it, questioning it: so many commitments that require the necessary confrontation on the ground. And not just the horticultural production sites, but traveling, clearing, and listing the natural habitat of plants. We regularly travel the world and its tremendous biodiversity in search of inspiration, encounters and confrontation in the living. Whether it is the rhododendrons of Yakushima (Japan), the Bromeliaceae of subtropical Peru, the Greek phrygana (maquis) or the Metropolitan mesicosal plants, Thomas Penni Burrows photography, interrogates, studies, then tests its findings in the two gardens of the Atelier (the laboratory, Hauts-de-Seine, the southern garden in Brittany). Each new garden is thus enriched with lessons learned, step by step.

Thomas Penni Burrows feeds on his passion for the Japanese and Mediterranean flora in his projects. Two experimental gardens serve as a living laborator. The plants, collected in partnership with collector nurserymen, are tested full-scale, to enrich the projects. Thomas Penni Burrows is also a member of the Mediterranean Garden Society., and since 2016 is a permanent jury of the major Italian event of the horticultural world: Murabilia (Tuscany), among botanists and passionate journalists from all over the world.

Several times a year, Thomas Penni Burrows explores the world to discover more and more about the world’s biodiversity and help make it known, better understand it, and better use it in his projects. Wet forests or mining scrubs of New Caledonia, subtropical forests of Peru, Alpine flora of Japan, South Korea, New zealand, Argentina... but also meetings with botanical gardeners from all over the world: Edinburgh, Buenos Aires, New York... These trips are documented daily.
